Two statues that sat atop the larger structure of the Memorial to Confederate soldiers and Sailors Monument were toppled by protestors on Juneteenth and dragged through the streets. One was hung from a lampost, and as the night wore on one was carried away by police on a golf cart.

On 2020.06.20 the rest of the monument was removed by the city.
