The Jefferson City Council voted 8-2 in favor of removing the monument on October 19, 2020.
The monument to Major General Sterling Price in Jefferson City, Missouri was donated by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1933.
It commemorates Price, who led a group of Missouri State Guardsmen into battle for the Confederacy, and who--at the conclusion of the Civil War--refused to surrender and instead took troops to Mexico.
Calls for the marker’s removal began mid-July of 2020; they were opposed by the Daughters of the Confederacy. It’s currently housed in city-owned storage.
