San Francisco, California USA
The Francis Scott Key Monument in Golden Gate Park was toppled by anti-racist activists. One year later, a new monument by artist Dana King was opened on monuments former site. The new monument called “Monumental Reckonings” contains 350 steel sculptures to represent the first Africans kidnapped and trafficked from Angola to America in 1619.
Francis Scott Key, who famously penned the ‘Star Spangled Banner,’ was a slave owner from Maryland.
